The Amygdala, Hippocampus, Hippocampal Gyrus, and the Caudate Tail can act as good landmarks in coronal sections.

Starting rostrally at the level of the anterior commissure, none of these structures are present. As we move caudally we first come across the amygdala. As the amygdala ends, we see the caudate tail and the Hippocampus. The relationship between the caudate and amygdala is illustrated in the figure above.
Note that the parahippocampal gyrus is barely visible in the sagittal section, so don’t worry about locating it in Figure 3.
