Finally, buried within the lateral sulcus is a fifth major lobe called the insula (also called the Island of Reil). The insula can be seen by gently parting the frontal, parietal, and temporal lobes, or, as the figure shows, partly cutting them out of the way.

In the exercise section that follows, you will be asked to identify the cerebral lobes and the major sulci.
