Superficial Blood Vessels - Major Veins

Lab 03, Page 13 of 36

As it is difficult to differentiate the veins from small arteries in your specimens, you should read through the relevant sections of your textbook. Recall that unlike many veins in the body, cerebral veins do not generally accompany arteries. Instead they emerge from the substance of the brain, form an anastomotic network that gives rise to the cerebral veins. The cerebral veins pass through the subarachnoid space and empty into a series of venous channels in the dura mater called venous sinuses. Two venous systems can be identified: superficial cerebral veins and deep cerebral veins. Be certain to learn the regions drained by the major veins.
